It was a disappointing end to this year’s Kings season; the Kings missed the playoffs by ONE game despite having all the momentum going into that game.

Only one week left in the regular season of NBA basketball! If you told me two years ago that I would be disappointed in a Sacramento Kings play-in tournament spot, I’d tell you that you are crazy.

The Western Conference is tighter than my pants after Thanksgiving dinner! The Sacramento Kings were knocked from 6th to 7th seed by the Dallas Mavericks, who then claimed 6th for themselves, on Tuesday, March 26th. While I was watching the first half of the game, I was thinking I would write about what a physical game the two teams were playing, that you can tell that the players knew how important that game was, and that it was giving serious playoff vibes. But now that the game is over, I sure as hell can’t write that because if that was the playoffs, the Kings would be embarrassed. While the first half finished with the Kings only down, 58-53, they ended up losing 96-132. It felt like Dallas guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving could not miss, and it was pretty darn close to that; Doncic and Irving shot 50% and 44% from 3, respectively. The whole team shot 56% from 3, which is insane; their season average is 36.8%, and in their last two games, the team shot 13.3% and 28.6%. The

The Kings are moving up in the world! This week again saw only one loss, but of course, it had to be the game I attended against the Knicks last Saturday, March 16th. While the end score looks pretty disappointing, 91-98, it doesn’t show what an exciting and close game this was, up until the last two minutes at least. I’m absolutely loving seeing what a sports fan my son, Rudy, is becoming; he was yelling and pointing and telling me the refs didn’t know what they were talking about. We saw a couple of absolutely amazing dunks by Malik Monk that made us jump up out of our seats, and the woman next to me informed me that Monk was her favorite. After I said, “Mine too!” the man behind us chimed in that Monk was also his favorite player. It sounds like the consensus is that we all love Monk and hope the Kings are able to bring him back next season.Well, Rudy informed me, “We were done” when the Kings were down seven with 4:30 left on the clock. While I didn’t exactly get the winning streak that I wanted, the Kings did win three out of four games last week, so I really can’t complain. While they only lost one game, it was a pretty disappointing one as the Kings blew yet another double-digit lead against the 11th-place, 30-35 Houston Rockets. The Rockets, like the New Orleans Pelicans, are one team we just can’t figure out how to beat. We are now 0-3 against them this season and won’t be playing them again. The good news is after that devastating loss, the Kings turned around and beat the 2nd place in the east, 42-24 Milwaukee Bucks. And they didn’t just beat the Bucks; they beat them by 35 points. They held the reigning 3-point champion, seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard, to only 10 points. Lillard’s points per game average this season is 24.7. He hasn’t scored this little since the second game of the season. I don’t always have faith that the Kings can win a championship with th

Hey, sports fans, I’m back from my absence due to the death of my father, Tim Jordan. Who knows if I’m really ready to be back; anyone who has lost someone can probably understand how hard it is to enjoy anything after you lose someone so close to you. My dad thought it was so cool that I wrote a sports column, and he, a man who never watched sports, somehow knew when important sporting events were happening and would ask me who I thought was going to win or whether I was watching the game. He was also coming and watching football and basketball games with me every week; now remember, this man did not watch sports. He just loved me and loved spending time with me. He was always good at trying to relate to people with whatever they were passionate about.Would you look at that, I managed to turn my sports column into another obituary for my dad. I guess basketball hasn’t been quite the same since he died; to be honest, sometimes I feel like I will never enjoy anything a

I find myself in a writing funk this week, perhaps because of the four games last week. I was only able to catch two, and unfortunately, it was the two they lost, so I haven’t seen a Kings win in a week, and I’m getting antsy! But the Kings won five games of their seven-game road trip, which is pretty much as good as you can ask for. On Wednesday, January 31st, the Kings broke their four-game winning streak against the Heat in Miami, a place in which they haven’t won since 2018. The Kings kept the score close enough to give us a little bit of hope but not close enough to really give themselves a chance. The Kings lost, 106-115.I was at a baby shower this weekend in the Bay Area (I’m going to be an auntie!), and I missed the back-to-back on Friday and Saturday against the Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Bulls. But I’m happy to report they won both of those games. They beat the Pacers 133-122 and the Bulls 123-115. Don’t let that eight-point victory in

Last week, I wrote about Joel Embiid becoming the ninth player in NBA history to score 70 points; well, just four days later, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks became the tenth player to do it. The Mavericks had lost three games in a row prior to their game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, January 26th, and Doncic and the Mavericks just wanted to get a win. It apparently took 73 points from their top player to make that happen. The Mavericks still barely squeaked by the Hawks, 148-143. And, no, this high score did not come in overtime. That was all in regulation. I think we are going to see more and more performances like this in the coming years as the NBA keeps getting faster and the players get more efficient. Congratulations to Luka Doncic for tying Wilt Chamberlain and David Thompson for the fourth highest-scoring game in history.Let’s talk about the Kings! After breaking their four-game losing streak last week against the Atlanta Hawks, they have kept their winning st

Before we get into the Sacramento Kings’ week, I want to acknowledge the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid dropping 70 points on Monday, January 22nd, against the San Antonio Spurs. Before the game, everyone was talking about the matchup between Embiid and Spurs rookie, Victor Wembanyama. Don’t get me wrong, Wembanyama is a phenom and definitely someone to talk about, but Embiid shut up that conversation real quick. Wembanyama is, after all, a rookie. Embiid is the first 76er to score 70 and the ninth player in NBA history to do it. For history’s sake, the other players who have scored 70 in a game are Damian Lillard, Donavan Mitchell, Devin Booker, Kobe Bryant, David Robinson, David Thompson, Wilt Chamberlain, and Elgin Baylor. Now, to talk about the Kings, they’ve had a rough January, which saw them move out of a playoff spot and into the play-in tournament spot. The Kings lost four straight games before their win against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, Januar

And the emotional roller coaster continues! But before we get into that, last week, I didn’t have room to tell you that at the NBA’s Sales & Marketing Meeting in Miami last week, the Sacramento Kings were named the NBA Team of the Year and also won the NBA Innovation Award for the “Victory Beam” they light after each win. The NBA Team of the Year Award recognizes excellence in team business performance, and there are so many reasons why the Kings won this award. The Kings had the highest number of season ticket renewals in franchise history; nearly 100% of season tickets were renewed, they ranked No. 2 among all NBA teams in ticket revenue growth, they ranked No. 1 in fan in-game experiences, and game viewership for the Kings went up 200%+. Postgame Show viewership went up 177%, and the Kings had ABC’s largest-ever audience for a non-NBA Finals game and the Most-watched 1st Round Playoff Game in 24 years. They also hosted more than 100 community events

Being a Sacramento Kings fan is an emotional roller coaster! We’ll get to the highlight of my week, the game my son and I attended, in a minute, but first, we have to talk about the double overtime game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, January 3rd. The Kings had not been performing well on back-to-back games, and after an embarrassing end to the game the night before, it was up in the air how this game against Orlando would go. Let’s just say that the Magic, who are not known for their scoring, especially their three-pointers, could not miss one. Luckily, the Kings were scoring just as much; in fact, our boy, Domantas Sabonis, had a triple-double with 22 points, 23 rebounds, and 12 assists. Do you know who else in NBA history has had a line like that? Only four other people: Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Stokes, Bill Russell, and Elgin Baylor. After 12 ties and 22 lead changes, the Kings managed to pull out the win, 138-135.Friday, January 5th, my nine-year-old son Rudy

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m getting over the stomach flu, so we are gonna keep this one short and sweet, and I’m not gonna lie: I watched a lot of the last two Kings games with my eyes closed. But we had three very different games this week, so let’s get into it.First off, the Kings had a comeback victory against the Atlanta Hawks that was super exciting. It was the kind of game that is the reason you watch the NBA. The Kings were down by 18 at halftime, but they clawed their way back to take the lead with 5:48 left in the fourth quarter, and we had an exciting back and ending before the Kings took the victory, 117-110.Next, the Kings completely dominated the Memphis Grizzlies on their home court on New Year’s Eve, and I guess I didn’t have a big reason to open my eyes because they won 123-92. But I had to pry my eyes open for the end of the Charlotte Hornets game on Tuesday, January 2nd, because, although the Kings were winning, the Hornets weren’
