I am at a loss for words for what is happening to the Sacramento Kings this season. Kings fans all over Northern California are looking for time machines, and we hope we can go back to the Kings team of two years ago when we were the third seed in the Western Conference.
We only played three games this week, and yes, we did beat the Portland Trailblazers 128-107, but then we had two devastating losses. First, a blowout loss by 30 points to the Orlando Magic, followed by a last-minute loss in a close game with the Indiana Pacers. It’s hard to say which one hurts worse. Well, I think I can indeed say that in this case, the Magic loss felt worse; watching that game, it felt like they were so terrible their season was basically over; at least against the Pacers, I saw some good basketball, and they showed me that glimmer of hope I’m always looking for. Of course, the hope was ripped away from me in the last minute of the game, but such is the life of a Kings fan. The Kings had control of that game from the mid-second quarter to the mid-fourth quarter, but the Pacers scored 30 points in that fourth quarter, including two three-pointers in a row in the last minute of the game to put the Pacers up by five. The Kings were able to also score some three-pointers after that, but it was too late by that point, and the Pacers hit 8/8 free throws in the last 30 seconds of the game. The Kings lost 109-111.
The social media platform formerly known as Twitter is a buzz with rumors that Domantas Sabonis could request a trade if no clear direction is established this off-season. It would make sense; two years ago, Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox had just led the Kings to their first playoff berth in 17 years under the direction of Mike Brown, and now both Brown and Fox are gone. Of course, I hope we don’t lose Sabonis; he and Malik Monk are the only two people who seem to have any chemistry with anyone else on the team.
This week the Kings continue their road trip, first against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, April 2nd, then they travel on to Charlotte to play the Hornets on Friday, April 4th, to Cleveland to play the Cavaliers, who I’m sure are looking for revenge for their loss against the Kings last week. On Sunday, April 6th, they finish up in Detroit against the Pistons, before on Monday, April 7th, going back to Sacramento to finish up their last three games of the season. It’s hard to believe it’s almost over! The Kings are still hanging on to that last spot in the Play-in tournament; go, Kings!
