With the regular season ending in less than two weeks, some teams we have been following will qualify for post-season games while others will not.

Bear River Bruins: Since our last edition the Bruins beat the Marysville Indians (64-56), the Center Cougars (59-31), and the Mira Loma Matadors (78-7) to gain a tie with the Marysville Indians for second-place in the Pioneer Valley League. Last night (after our deadline), the team went up against the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, a group they trounced 64-32 back on 1/15. Before our next edition, they’ll face the Oakmont Vikings and the Wheatland Pirates, teams they have handled easily this season.

Chester Volcanos: This past Tuesday the Volcanos outscored the CORE Butte Lynx of Chico, 42-32, to break a three-game loss streak and bring their season record to 13 wins and 7 losses. Tonight, the team goes up against the 15-5 Quincy Trojans, and next week, on 2/11, they close out their season at home against the Los Molinos Bulldogs.

Colfax Falcons: Last night (again, after our deadline), the Falcons took a ten-game win streak into their game against the Marysville Indians, a unit they beat by a score of 67-42 on 1/15. Since they have already whipped each of the other three teams coming up to close their regular season, the Falcons have a good chance to extend their unbeaten streak to 14 games. They are almost sure to win the Pioneer Valley League championship.

Lassen Grizzlies: Over the past week, Susanville’s Grizzlies lost to the West Valley Eagles by only five points (41-46), a big improvement over the 33 and 15-point losses handed to them by the Eagles in early January, and they scored their most points in a single game this season while edging out the Anderson Cubs, 67-64. They must continue this offensive surge during their upcoming games against the University Prep Panthers (tomorrow night at home) and Yreka Miners (next Tuesday evening), teams who beat the Grizzlies by 23 and 10 points, respectively, earlier this year.

Loyalton Grizzlies: The Sierra Valley’s Grizzlies will take a four-game win streak on the court when they travel to Carson City tomorrow night to play the Sierra Lutheran Falcons. Currently holding first place in their Pioneer League, the team has three league games left. Two are against teams they beat earlier this season. So, these Grizzlies are in the hunt for a championship next week.

Modoc Braves: Last Friday, Jan. 31, the Braves went on the road to battle the Trinity Wolves, the Shasta Cascade League’s second-place team. The Braves are now tied for first place with the Wolves. Yes, the road trip netted a 39-47 loss for Modoc. This Saturday, Feb. 8, the team travels again to play the SCL’s fifth-place team, the Weed Cougars. Then, their final two games of the season will be at home against teams the Braves beat soundly last month.

Nevada Union Miners: This past Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Miners faced the FVL’s third-place team, the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos, and welcomed a 16-point victory. Tonight, Feb. 6, the girls travel to Roseville for their next to last game of a tough season.

Plumas Charter Warriors: The Warriors defeated the Elk Creek Elks on Tuesday evening, Jan. 18, by 38-30. Their next game, on Feb. 7, against the Loyalton Grizzlies will be the final game of their regular season.

Portola Tigers: Over the last week, the Tigers traveled to play the Virginia City Muckers for a 63-44 non-conference win and the Quincy Tigers for a 36-43 loss in a league game. Now in third place, with four more league games to play, three against weak teams, the Tigers hold a good chance to maintain their standing in the Mid-Valley League.

Quincy Trojans: Last Friday, 1/15, the Trojans returned home after playing the Biggs Wolverines, and they still lead the Mid-Valley League (M-VL). But, having lost to the Wolverines, their five-game win streak broken, they shared the lead with Biggs. Recovering quickly, the team then pulled off a 43-36 victory against the Portola Tigers. Tonight, 1/6, theTrojans face the resilient Chester Volcanos before closing their regular season against the weak Maxwell Panthers and Williams Yellowjackets.

Truckee Wolverines: Currently with a 4-10 overall record and standing fifth in their 3A Northern-West League, the Wolverines will close out the regular season with games against teams who beat them earlier in the season, the South Tahoe Vikings and the Hug Hawk.
