Jerome L. "Jerry" McCaffrey Jr.

1934 - 2023

Jerome L. “Jerry” McCaffrey Jr. peacefully passed away on January 6th, 2023.

Known in Sierra County for being a County Supervisor for many years, he was also a dedicated firefighter with the Sierra County Fire Protection District for over fifty years and held the office of Chief in Sierraville. He often spoke of being one of the first EMT’s as he was in the first EMT class held north of Sacramento in the 70’s.

Most people will remember him and his wife Jean as the owners of the Sierraville Service and Country Store and knew they could always stop for a cup of coffee and get a report on what was happening in the area.

He had many occupations besides firefighting and EMS. He also had a long career with the Forest Service working both on the Tahoe and Shasta/Trinity National Forests. Most will remember him as a truck driver, hauling lumber from Holstrom’s Mill in Sattley, or cattle for Dan Russel. He was also a Greyhound bus driver for many years working out of Sacramento, San Francisco and San Diego.

Born in Houston Texas, he was a father of 4, grandfather of 7 and great grandfather of 7. He was 89 years old at the time of his passing.

Funeral service and celebration of life will be held at the Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, in Fernley, Nevada on Saturday, February 4th, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
