The above was posted by historian Heather Cox Richardson on a Sunday after President #45/#47 made claim that it is the Second Amendment to the Constitution that is the foundation of The United States of America. It is the preamble that lays the foundation that the 13 Colonies signed onto over 200 years ago as the reason for being a new nation called the United States of America. Their battle was for freedom and security. Both must be in that foundation. Etched in the minds of those ready to fight for freedom and security were also the anchors, the priorities, the reasons to do what the Founding Fathers did.The priorities were what some would say are only ideas.They went beyond ideas. This is the firm rock, not the sand, that our nation is built on:

“Establish justice” -- not try for justice but to establish justice. Thus, a judicial system.

“Insure domestic tranquility” -- not hope for domestic tranquility. Thus, a legislative system.“Promote the general welfare” -- not continue a feudal system that was practiced in the old country.Thus, again, a legislative system.

And on with, “Provide for the common defense”, “and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”Thus, again, a legislative system.

It was such a part of the first President, George Washington, that he refused a third term, as even though many asked him to serve longer. He knew that it was important not to go down that path of kingship.

They had no illusions that this would be anything but hard. They had different ideas about how each principle would be achieved, but it certainly did not involve a one person — strong man or king, as they had known kings. They were finished with a king, as we should be too.
