As I contemplate the New Year, I think back to all of those whom I have to thank for making the past year one of happiness and peace. I am fortunate to have made it through the year without any health issues, and for that, I must give thanks to my parents, from whom I inherited a hearty physical disposition that has allowed me to thrive for 85 years. Moving on to more current thank yous, I emphatically acknowledge my partner Patti, who encourages me each day to be optimistic and think of others in my daily life experience. I am lucky to have a partner like her during these elder years. I am thankful to my children, Kara and Brooke, who share their experiences with me and encourage me to write and explore new adventures daily. My career as a lawyer for these past 60 years has led to professional relationships with colleagues too numerous to mention but who make the everyday exercise of practicing law invigorating and exciting.
Having a robust social life here in Florida with Chamber Music, the monthly Men’s Lunch, and outings with numerous friends, both new and from my college years, provides the underpinning to a happy life. This year, I’ve been so productive with my watercolor painting due in large part to the encouragement of my teachers, Ted and Jerry, at the Armory. What started as a slot filler has become something much more – an expression of my inner soul. Carl Butz and the Mountain Messenger have added a meaningful new dimension to my life by providing an avenue for exploring my inner thoughts and ideas. The encouragement I receive from so many people to write the Here Back East column as well as a book a year, inspires me — and forces my foot to the pedal, allowing for no wasted time. And for that, I thank you, my readers.
