Thank You for Packer Lake Fish Day

July 22, 2024

Editor,

Thank you, Packer Lake Fish Day Partners, for 25 years and still going strong!

Saturday marked our 25th annual Packer Lake Fish Day. The California Department of Fish and Game stocked Packer Lake with 2,000 lbs of rainbow trout that included some beautiful nine-pounders. CDFW Biologist Amber Mouser tagged 100 fish, bringing a $20 prize for those who caught one. The Tahoe National Forest and the South Yuba River Citizens League provided many activities and displays, bringing with them Smokey the Bear and Frank and Francis Fish. Logan and Levi O-Donnell’s successful fishing provided enough bluegill for the always popular fish-printing on T-shirts. Each of the 104 children who participated were all eligible for a raffle prize, compliments of the Sierra County Fish and Wildlife Commission. Thanks also to Tim Robinson of Bassett’s Station, Cindy McCreary of Sierra Hardware in Downieville, Gia and Joe Jimenez, and Sylvia Lopez Ostrom for donating time and supplies; and we especially want to thank all of the Tahoe National Forest employees, District Ranger Tom Parrack and Forest Supervisor Matt Jedra for their continued support to this popular Sierra County event — with special recognition to Fisheries Biologist Dan Teater and Lauren Hoyle and the Yuba River District personnel who always work especially hard to ensure that our event is successful.
