17:07 - Loyaltonian observed a possible injured deer near property; deputy found “there was no deer in sight.”

17:08 - Theft reported at Ramshorn Transfer Station.

22:02 - Folks in Downieville lost some items near the river.

23:09 - Holy Toledo! “Report of a meteor striking the ground near HWY 395. A Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate any fire or smoke.” The odds of you being hit by a meteor are...astronomical.

Tuesday, September 24

18:08 - First call of the day! CHP around Sattley investigating reports of an accident and a stolen vehicle.

19:31 - Deputy could not find reported suspicious vehicle in Calpine.

22:58 - Truck hit a parked trailer in Loyalton. Sounds like something I’d do. Boarding school didn’t teach Driver’s Ed. In my 50 years, if a situation requires parallel parking, I’ll just go back home. Really should have a camera in my vehicle for backing out, but my ride is like twenty five years old. With my eldest now driving, I spend half my day asking Jesus to provide my darling daughter the driving smarts I lack! And before ya’ll try to explain how simple it is to parallel park, make sure you can back your boat into the lake before sounding off!

Wednesday, September 25

06:55 - Accidental 911 call in Loyalton.

08:02 - Another call about a hit and run previously reported.

08:49 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

13:47 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

14:11 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

15:27 - “Report of on going harassment” in Calpine. “It was found that there is no proof and the report is all speculation at this time.”

16:46 - Deputies unable to locate 911 hang up caller in Downieville.

18:27 - Traffic citation in Yuba County.

21:38 - To caller’s relief, off-roading folks who left Downieville on their way to La Porte, finally made it home.

Thursday, September 26

05:11 - Accidental 911 call in Loyalton.

06:50 - Lodger at the Nevada County Jail transported to court.

06:54 - Abandoned vehicle near Sierra City received violation warning.

08:02 - Utility alarm sounding in Downieville. Property caretaker notified.

11:06 - Despite a request for an ambulance in Loyalton, the patient refused transport and stayed at home.

11:36 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

13:51 - Report of fraud attempt in Verdi.

17:01 - Security box vandalized in Camptonville.

20:22 - Apparently, some dumbasses stomped out their illegal fire at Sardine Campground before the law arrived. Those wearing a badge must be tired giving these fire restriction speeches! Between idiot campers and dirt bike riders driving wherever the hell they want...and the rebellious cows...ugh! Now I have to find my non-nicotine vape. Thinking about idiots and forest fires stresses me out and I’m fighting the urge to light up a smoke (sort of ironic). That’s another thing- smoking cigarettes in our forests or throwing your cigarette out the window of a vehicle is also blockhead behavior. Don’t be daft!

22:21 - Stolen vehicle reported in Pike! What baffles me is per census data, Pike has about 70 folks and Alleghany even fewer. Where are these criminal coming from? Maybe I should loan out my German Shepherd to keep watch! Well, she’s too crazy so nevermind. Geez!

Friday, September 27

08:52 - I refer to incarcerated folks as “lodgers” because I do sincerely care about most folks, keyword: most. But since this individual chose to escape their “lodge,” I’ll state that this call is about an escaped “inmate” out of Plumas County. Leads indicated this escaped inmate could make his way to our neck of the woods! Hope they catch him soon!

10:20 - Before I tell you about this entry, I want to thank the 81-year-old subscriber who just called the office to tell me she enjoys reading this here Blotter and my Be Encouraged column! Thank you Judy! As I told her, there are only so many ways I can write about cows being in the road...it’s not always easy! Anyway, a window was broken at the Sierraville School. My mind floats to The Andy Griffith Show, I imagine if Opie broke the window, he’d fess up to it! Good ole Andy would have made Opie mow some lawns to pay for a replacement window!

10:35 - Cow on a Beckwourth Road. I’m out of bovine jokes.

13:10 - CHP notified of a vehicle stuck somewhere around Truckee.

14:08 - Report of suspicious vehicle in Loyalton thatwas gone when the law arrived. With an escaped inmate around these parts, many are on high alert!

14:13 - “Request for law enforcement to escort the school buses due to the escaped inmate from Plumas County.” Not a bad idea. Locking down the schools also wouldn’t be a bad idea...and they did! And some complained? Always a complainer. As a mom- please continue to do what’s necessary to keep my kids safe!

14:38 - Vehicle repossessed in Sierra Brooks.

15:07 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

16:04 - Ambulance requested in Downieville.

19:29 - Out of county fraud victim provided information.

19:53 - I understand many men are happy it’s finally deer season! They can leave their stress behind unless of course their “stress” wants to join them! This veteran, typically known for wearing dresses, (yes, I’m highly feminine, though my language at times would say otherwise), wore camouflage BDU’s for years in the military- so women do wear “camo” for a variety of reasons and YES, hunting is one! Fun fact: In 2001, there were roughly 1.8 million registered female hunters across the states...by 2013, the number was over 3 million! A recent report denotes there are roughly 15.9 million hunters across the country and male-to-female ratio being nine to one! I could totally see myself hunting, and there are times I could totally see myself going vegan. I want to save animals. But I also want to eat them. Woe is me! Back to this call: One was hunting in the wrong area in some unspecified Sierra County location and received a violation from Fish & Wildlife!

19:57 - Deputy removed a dead deer off a Loganville road.

23:13 - Female turned herself in at the “lodge” per the Court Commitment.

23:55 - Owners of a field near Plum Valley instructed to clean up their trash.

23:58 - Accidental 911 call from Berger Campground.

Saturday, September 28

03:29 - Ambulance requested in Alleghany.

12:00 - Another hunter in the wrong area around Sierra City issued a violation citation.

13:59 - Red Moose Cafe will be using an electric smoker for an event. Thanks for the FYI (Seriously- these notifications often prove beneficial and eliminate confusion over where smoke is coming from, illegal fires etc.).

14:30 - 911 hang up in Loyalton. Deputy made contact in person with party. Glad we don’t have a lazy department that just says “Oh well!” when someone hangs up! They go investigate to ensure everything is kosher!

16:38 - Plumas County Forest Service patrolling around parts of Gold Lake.

16:45 - Fish and Wildlife arrested one near Sierra City over weapon offenses.

17:47 - “Report of lost hikers who were separated near the Sierra Buttes area. Deputies and Downieville Ambulance were able to locate both subjects and they both AMA and were transported back to their private vehicle.” If you are lost in the woods, talk out loud about politics — someone will show up and argue with you.

20:14 - Concern over neighbor’s house in Sattley resulted in nothing suspicious found by deputy. I really don’t like the wording of that sentence. I’m on a deadline. Oh well.

Sunday, September 29

01:55 - CHP will contact Caltrans to remove deceased deer in pieces on Highway 70. Yuck, that’s a bit morbid. Anyway, I chuckle thinking of my husband who works for Caltrans and my young son thinking he worked for “Tralcans.”

07:44 - Downed telephone line in Downieville.

09:07 - Accidental alarm at the clinic in Downieville. Sidenote: I have been to this clinic twice in the last few weeks - primarily to get the happy little pill to help me stop smoking! It is really a blessing we have a clinic in our tiny mountain town! Dr. Dan is FANTASTIC! (And so is the rest of the staff).

11:05 - “REMSA” responding for a medical call near Crystal Peak. Who is REMSA? After some research: Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (near Reno).

14:34 - Hunter lost firearm near Grass Lake. Oh I inquired about this one! Apparently, after the hunter was wading through thick brush he realized he no longer had his weapon! I’m always wondering where I placed my glasses. The phrase “If they aren’t on your face, put them in a case” comes to mind. Maybe there is some catchy phrase that can be applied to firearms? Glasses are one thing, but a firearm? GEEZ!

19:41 - Trespassing issue in Pike.

19:49 - CHP notified of disabled vehicle East of Loyalton.

20:54 - Threatening comments made in Pike. Linked to the trespassing issue.

21:54 - One arrested in Verdi by CHP for DUI.

22:10 - Vehicle fire near Calpine spreads to forest. Turns out fire was only a 55x50 foot area, but fires spread quickly! USFS handling. Under Investigation.

Total reported: 62
