Plumas Registrar of Voters Addresses Election Integrity

April 17, 2025

QUINCY — Plumas County Registrar of Voters Marcy DeMartile (who is also county Clerk-Recorder) sought to address concerns about election integrity in a statement delivered at the April 15 meeting of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors. She explained that while Congress is debating new legislation on voting, known as the SAVE Act, many procedures are already in place to verify voter information and ensure the integrity of elections at all levels. For example, she said, the first question on California’s voter registration card asks whether the applicant is a US citizen, and the last question is an affidavit requiring the applicant to swear that all the information provided is true. She described those questions as the “foundation of all election processes.”

The SAVE Act and a related presidential executive order seek to amend those existing processes, she said, and quoted a statement she made at a previous conference of California election officials: that “anyone...wishing to change, amend or question any election process should come in and work one election cycle, from voter registration to certification of the election, and then come back and tell us how to do our job.” She concluded by encouraging citizens with questions or concerns about elections to “come to the source,” rather than believing what the hear in the news “and especially on social media” and allow her office to demonstrate “what we do, how we do it, why we do it, and what governs what we do.” They would be more than happy to explain the process, she said.
