Pile Burning Planned in Quincy, Greenville and Meadow Valley

Plumas National Forest Press Release

February 11, 2025

QUINCY — Starting today, firefighters on the Plumas National Forest Mount Hough Ranger District will be working on pile burning operations near Quincy, Greenville and Meadow Valley, conditions permitting.

Near Quincy, approximately 1 acre of piles will be ignited at the Mount Hough Ranger District located off California State Highway 70. Treatment also includes 1 acre of piles at Oakland Camp and 1 acre of piles at Greenville Campground. Ignitions are expected to be completed Tuesday.

Smoke is expected to be visible from American Valley, Quincy and Greenville, but is not expected to have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities.

Near Meadow Valley, approximately 284 acres of large machine piles are planned for ignition starting tomorrow and continuing through the week. Smoke for this larger pile burning operation is expected to be visible from both Meadow Valley and Quincy, but not have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities.

Short duration, minor smoke impacts are expected in Meadow Valley, along Silver Lake Road, and along Oro-Quincy Highway and neighboring forest roads. Visibility on roads in the project areas may be reduced, especially early in the morning and late evening as smoke settles.

There will be increased firefighting equipment traffic in the areas mentioned. Drivers in the area should use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, and possible slow traffic.

If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout the entire operation.
