A slide on Pendola Road encroaches on the roadway, causing the closure
CAMPTONVILLE — A two-mile stretch of Pendola Road near Camptonville has been closed by Yuba County due to a failing section of roadway. The failure was caused by a landslide, which has encroached on the roadway, undermining its stability. The county is conducting further investigation to determine the exact condition of the road.
A Facebook post by the county states that it will “reevaluate the closure at a later date,” but it assures the public that the closure is not permanent at this time. The Yuba County Board of Supervisors welcomes public comment on the decision at their meeting on January 14th at 9:00 AM, and they will have the say over the road’s ultimate fate.

“Public Works plans to reevaluate the slipout after the winter weather events [which] will likely happen in spring. The road will remain closed while there is a concern for public safety. Any future actions, like the potential for a permanent closure or the means to repair the slipout, will be discussed with the Yuba County Board of Supervisors,” says a county Spokesperson.
The Pendola Extension Road, which had paving work done in May of this year and will be plowed through the winter, can be used to bypass the closed section. Still, the detour could add 20 minutes or more to residents’ commutes, and concerns have been raised over limited escape route options in case of fire.
