Mary DeSanctis, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, at the age of 99. Born in Rochester, NY, on June 16, 1925, Mary was the eldest of four children born to Italian immigrant parents. At a young age, she moved to California and embraced the West Coast as her home. Mary faced early challenges in life, having been widowed at just 20 years old after a brief marriage that resulted in the birth of her son, Mike. Undeterred by adversity, Mary remarried at age 22 to Dominic DeSanctis and lovingly cared for their disabled daughter, Donna.

Mary’s compassion and strength were evident throughout her life, particularly during her career at GTE Telephone before retiring to Grass Valley, CA, in 1983. Mary continued to be a part of the community, volunteering at hospice centers and the Special Olympics. In 2008, Mary found solace with her sister Vi Marcantonio in Downieville, CA, following the passing of her husband. The two became inseparable, eventually relocating to Sparks, NV, in 2017. Mary cherished the winters spent with Vi’s daughter, Mia Marcantonio-Standeford, in Southern California, creating lasting memories with family.

In 2023, Mary moved to an assisted living facility in Brea, CA, where she spent her final year in comfort and peace. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, survived by her son, Mike; 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Vi Marcantonio; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom she adored. Mary’s life was a testament to perseverance and compassion, touching the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Mary’s life. Mary’s family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this difficult time. May Mary rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who went before her.
