With only a couple of weeks remaining in the regular season, here are their most recent results and a listing of upcoming games for the local high school girls basketball teams:
Bear River Bruins: The Bruins extended their winning streak to five games on Jan. 22 when they beat the Wheatland Pirates 54-20. Last Friday, however, the team was overwhelmed, 38-70, by the visiting Colfax Falcons, and dropped to third place in the Pioneer Valley League (PVL) behind the Marysville Indians, the team the Bruins hosted last night (after our deadline). We will report the results of this contest and the games they play against the Oakmont Vikings and Center Cougars on Friday, Jan. 31 and Monday, Feb. 3, respectively, in next week’s edition.
Chester Volcanos: After outscoring the Princeton Eagles on Jan. 22, 41-30, to build a three-game win streak, the Volcanos lost to the Los Molinos Bulldogs (30-35) and Redding Christian Lions (40-45) on Jan. 24 and Jan. 28, respectively. Next, tomorrow evening, the team will host the Burney Raiders, a team they have yet to beat during three earlier meetings this season.
Colfax Falcons: Last Friday evening, the Falcons were led by senior Juliette James (13 points and 12 rebounds) in a 70-38 trouncing of the Bear River Bruins for their ninth consecutive win and a 7-0 record in the PVL. Last night (again, after our deadline), the Falcons played the PVL’s last-place team, the Mira Loma Matadors, and tomorrow evening, the team will face the PVL’s next-to-last unit, the Wheatland Pirates.
Lassen Grizzlies: With Nellie Ratcliff leading the way (25 points, seven rebounds, and five steals) the Grizzlies of Susanville dominated the Central Valley Falcons, 62-21, last Friday evening. Tomorrow night, the Grizzlies will be traveling to face the West Valley Eagles, a team that has beaten them twice this season. Then, next Tuesday evening, the team is on the road again to meet up with another strong opponent, the Anderson Cubs.
Loyalton Grizzlies: After posting a 41-35 win against the Plumas Charter Warriors on Jan. 17, this den of Grizzlies hosted the Los Molinos Bulldogs on Jan. 22 and, guided by junior Catherine Petterson’s 22 points, pulled off a 55-45 victory. Over the next week, the team will defend first place in the Pioneer League in games against two teams they have beaten earlier this season, the Princeton Eagles (tomorrow night) and the Elk Creek Elks (next Tuesday).
Modoc Braves: As expected, this hot team easily outscored both the Etna Lions (64-27) and the Mt. Shasta Bears (51-19) this past week to remain unbeaten in the Shasta-Cascade League (SCL). Tomorrow night, Jan. 31, the Braves will be on the road to battle the Trinity Wolves, the SCL’s second-place team. Next Tuesday, Feb. 4, the team travels to play the SCL’s fifth-place team, the Weed Cougars.
Nevada Union Miners: After losing a heartbreaking overtime game to the River Valley Falcons last Friday in Yuba City, the Miners ended a streak of six consecutive losses by trouncing the Del Campo Cougars, 48-12. Tonight, Jan. 30, the Miners will travel to Auburn for a contest against the Placer Hillmen, a team now holding first place in the Foothill Valley League (FVL). Then, next Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Miners face the FVL’s third-place team, the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos.

Then the Tigers went on to defeat the Maxwell Panthers by more than 20 points on Jan. 28. Last night, after our deadline, the team traveled to play the much stronger, 14-7, Virginia City Muckers.
Quincy Trojans: After crushing the Williams Yellowjackets, 72-16, and trouncing the Hamilton Braves, 51-35, over the past week, the Trojans maintained their first-place position in the Mid-Valley League (M-VL). Tomorrow night, Jan. 30, the Trojans travel to play the Biggs Wolverines, the M-VL’s second-place team.
