In last Saturday’s game between the Loyalton Grizzlies and the Herlong Vikings, Gus Petterson’s passing (8 completions for 122 yards and two touchdowns), rushing (43 yards and two touchdowns) and defense (3 solo tackles and an interception returned for 24 yards) led the Grizzlies to a 24-14 victory over the Vikings. As a result, Loyalton’s team extended their season and will be playing the Tulelake Honkers tomorrow evening at 6 PM in Tulelake.

Meanwhile, this past Saturday, 11/9, the Truckee Wolverines went to Elko and repeated their dominance of the Spring Creek Spartans, winning by a score of 49-6, seven points more than when the Wolverines beat the Spartans, 42-6, back in mid-September. This Saturday, at 1 PM, the 11-0 Wolverines will host the Virgin Valley Bulldogs from Mesquite, NV (near the Nevada-Arizona border, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas) in the 2024 NIAA Football Playoffs.

During the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section, Division 6, Football Playoffs, the Bear River Bruins, seeded ninth in the tournament, traveled to play the eighth seed, the Ripon Christian and lost, 21-6. Thus the Bruins, trailing 7-6 at the end of the first half of the game, were knocked out of the competition by the Knights’ strong running offense and stingy defense. Meanwhile, this round of the Division 6 playoffs also saw the #6 seed, the Wheatland Pirates, who had given Bear River one of its two losses during the regular season, losing 24-14 to the #11 seed, the Calaveras Red Hawks.

The end of the season came for both the Portola Tigers and the Quincy Trojans last Friday night when the Tigers traveled to Quincy. Although the first half ended with the Trojans ahead, 7-0, the Tigers owned the scoring during the second half with two unanswered touchdowns and beat the Trojans, 14-7.

As for the Feather River Eagles, after falling behind, 35-14, by the end of the first half to the visiting Butte College Roadrunners last Saturday, the Eagles responded with four touchdowns in the second half. However, during the last two quarters, Butte College also took the ball across their opponents goal line four times, as well, and ended up with a 62-42 victory. This Friday the Eagles travel to Sacramento for the final game of their season, against the American River Beavers, a team who beat the Santa Rosa College Bearcubs 42-21 last week, the week after the Eagles beat the Bearcubs in dramatic fashion, 33-31.
