The Loyalton Grizzlies suffered a shut-out for the second consecutive week last Friday evening when their host, the Tulelake Honkers, used a superior ground game to trounce the Grizzlies by a score of 52-0. Tomorrow, Loyalton, with a 4-3 record, travels to play the Burney Raiders, a 3-5 team coming off a 34-16 victory over Placer Charter by 34-16 last week.
Last week, the Portola Tigers were beaten soundly by the Biggs Wolverines, 30-13, dropping their record to 1-6 during the 2024 season. Tomorrow night, the Tigers face the Maxwell Panthers, a 6-1 team that came off a 63-28 victory against Los Molinos last week.
Meanwhile, last Friday, the Nevada Union Miners lost their third game in a row, dropping to a 5-4 record while hosting and losing to the now 6-2 Roseville Tigers. The Miners have a bye this week, giving them a nice rest before closing out their season against another strong team, the now 6-2 Yuba City Honkers.
As for the Bear River Bruins, the team traveled last Friday for a hard-fought 26-20 win over the Colfax Falcons. This Friday, at 7:15 PM, the Bruins will be home to host a much weaker team, the Mira Loma Matadors.
The Truckee Wolverines, meanwhile, hosted the hapless (now 1-7) Sparks Railroaders last week and, by a score of 49-0, improved their record to 9-0. This week, the Wolverines travel to play their last game of the regular season against South Tahoe Vikings, a team that lost to the Lowry Buckaroos recently by a score of 41-14. Since the Wolverines beat the Buckeroos early this month by a score of 35-7, the odds of the Wolverines remaining unbeaten this season are excellent.
The Chester Volcanos traveled last week to Trinity County for a battle with the unbeaten Hayfork Lumberjacks, the team tied with Tulelake for first place in California’s Division 1 for 8-man football. The result: the Volcanos lost, 48-0, and extended their losing streak to six. This week, the Volcanos host the 6-1 Tulelake Honkers and will need a miracle to avoid another loss.
After a bye last Friday, a rested Westwood Lumberjacks team will try to put up their first win of the season when hosted by the mediocre, 2-4, Dunsmuir Tigers tomorrow at 6 PM. If unsuccessful, the Lumberjacks’s final game of the season will be against the Happy Camp Indians on November 1, another team with a winless record this season.
The crowd in Susanville who watched the Lassen Bulldogs take down the University Prep Panthers of Redding by a score of 27-20 last Friday will have to travel to Cottonwood, CA, this Friday to see if the Bulldogs can extend their current three-game win streak against the West Valley Eagles, a 2-5 team.
Last week, both the Herlong Vikings (4-1) and Quincy Trojans (3-4) had a bye week, resting up for games this Friday, 10/25, respectively, against the Butte Valley Bulldogs (3-4) and Williams Yellowjackets (2-5).
Last Saturday, at home, the Feather River Eagles played the Sierra College Wolverines and, despite gaining 453 yards during the game, the Eagles lost to the Wolverines, 42-40, when they failed, a couple of minutes before the end of the game, on a two-point conversion attempt following after a 34-yard fumble recovery touchdown. This Saturday at 5 PM, again at home, the Eagles will try to post their first win of the season against the 2-3 Shasta College Knights.
