Local Football Update

The Quincy Trojans, after a 36-14 loss to the Hamilton Braves last week, will be at home for the first time since August 30 when they play the Biggs Wolverines this Friday at 7:30 PM. This battle between the Trojans (3-2) and the Wolverines (3-1)

Despite their strong efforts, last Friday evening, the Portola Tigers lost a very close game, 35-32, to the well-balanced running and passing attacks made by the visiting Los Molinos Bulldogs. So, the Tigers will still be searching for their first victory of the year when the Hamilton Braves bring a 4-1 record to Portola tomorrow at 7:30 PM.

Coming off a 50-6 rout of the winless Happy Camp Indians last week at home, the Herlong Vikings (2-1) are traveling this week to play the winless (0-4) Westwood Lumberjacks at 6 PM tomorrow.

As for the Loyalton Grizzlies, their trip to Santa Rosa last Saturday to play the Roseland University Prep Knights resulted in a 58-6 loss and marked the end of their unbeaten season. This week, the Grizzlies travel again, this time for a rematch with the Chester Volcanos on Friday, 10/4, at 6 PM.

Meanwhile, the Nevada Union Miners ground out a 15-6 victory last week against the Del Campo Cougars to build a 5-1 record last week by a score of 15-6. Tomorrow night at 7:30 PM, the Miners will be hosting the Placer Hillmen, a team that also has five wins and only one loss (last week against Roseville, 36-35).

After posting a close 24-21 win against the Oakmont Vikings last Friday evening, the now 4-1 Bear River Bruins will be at home while competing against the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, another 4-1 team, at 7:15 PM tomorrow night.

Finally, the woes of the Feather River Eagles continued last week during a 37-13 loss to the College of the Sequoias Giants. With the cancellation of this week’s scheduled game against the Contra Costa Comets, the Eagles will get a nice chance to rest before their October 12 game against the Reedley Tiger, a team that posted their first victory of the season last week against the Shasta College Knights by a score of 35-33.
