With the regular season approaching its end, here are the results from games played since our last edition.

Bear River Bruins: Since our last report, the Bruins swept the Center Cougars, 6-2 and 2-1, before beating the El Camino Eagles (13-3), Burbank Titans (9-7), and Cordova Lancers (9-8) at a non-conference tournament in Sacramento.

Chester Volcanos: During the only game played by the Volcanos this past week, the strong, 14-3 overall, Los Molinos Bulldogs outscored Chester 16-1 and brought the Volcanos’ season record to 5-5.

Colfax Falcons: The Falcons’ two-game series against the PVL’s first-place team, the Oakmont Vikings, did not go well: the Falcons lost 5-16 on 4/9 and 0-6 on 4/11 to fall into fifth place in the Pioneer Valley League. Then, in a non-conference match against the El Dorado Triumphs on 4/15, the team allowed eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to lose 7-10.

Lassen Grizzlies: Having won three of the four games they played since our last report, Lassen’s Grizzlies remain tied for second place in their conference. Given the relatively weak records of their upcoming league opponents, the Yreka Miners and Central Valley Falcons, the odds of the Grizzlies finishing near the top of their ladder remain solid.

Loyalton Grizzlies: After demolishing the Dunsmuir Tigers 11-0 and 21-2 on 4/10 and shutting out the Portola Tigers 8-0 since our paper, the Loyalton’s Grizzlies will be tied for first place in the Evergreen League with the Plumas Charter Warriors and Hayfork Timberjacks when they host the Timberjacks today, 4/17.

Modoc Braves: Following up on a 13-1 and 8-2 sweep of the Trinity Wolves on 4/11 with a 15-4 rout on the Fall River Bulldogs on 4/15, the Braves now hold second place in the Shasta Cascade League.

Nevada Union Miners: With excruciatingly tough one-run losses to the Roseville Tigers (4-5 in 8 innings on 4/11) and Truckee Wolverines (1-2 on 4/15), the Miners dropped to sixth place in the Foothill Valley League (FVL) race. With their remaining league games scheduled against the first-place Yuba City Honkers, sadly, the odds of the Miners moving up in the standings look grim.

Placer Hillmen: Since our last report, the Hillmen were shut out, 0-6, by the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos in a 4/11 FVL game. Then, at a non-conference tournament, the Hillmen trounced the Hanford Bullpups (11-0) and lost to the Chowchilla Tribe (6-10) on 4/14 before beating the Frontier Titans of Bakersfield (6-3) on 4/15.

Plumas Charter Warriors: As expected, the Warriors’ trip to Tule Lake was successful; the team beat the Honkers 31-4 and 14-0 to move their season record to eight wins and seven losses. Meanwhile, with a 2-0 record in the Evergreen League, the Warriors currently share first-place standing with the Loyalton Grizzlies and the Hayfork Timberjacks.

Portola Tigers: The season’s woes continued for the Tigers this past week. On 4/11, the team lost twice to the Hamilton Braves (0-11 and 3-23) before being shut down, 0-8, by the Loyalton Grizzlies on 4/14.

Quincy Trojans: In advance of the spring break, the Trojans dropped two games to the Biggs Wolverines, 5-14 and 8-11, on 4/10, and are now tied for 4th place in the Mid-Valley League with the Portola Tigers.

Truckee Wolverines: Since our last report, the Wolverines extended their win streak to six games with victories over the South Tahoe Vikings (10-0), Carson Senators (6-5( and Nevada Union Miners (2-1). However, this string was broken at a non-conference tournament with a 3-8 loss to the Shasta Wolves on 4/15, and yesterday, 4/16, the team went down to defeat again, 7-12, to the Central Valley Falcons. Nonetheless, with a 10-1 record and two-game lead in their 3A North-West League, the Wolverines are well-placed to win their conference’s championship.
