June 24, 1931 – June 1, 2023

Larry Meyers was born and raised in California’s San Gabriel Valley during the Great Depression. He joined the U.S. Army at age 17 where he was a communications technician stationed at the Panama Canal. Upon honorable discharge, Larry used that experience to secure employment with the Western Electric Company. He spent his career installing telecommunications systems across the western states.

Having worked and vacationed in Sierra County many times over the years, Larry was captivated by Downieville and its people. This led to his moving to Downieville upon his retirement in 1983 along with his wife Judy and their two youngest children.

Many will remember Larry as a bartender at the St. Charles Place throughout the 1980s plus his many seasons with the U. S. Forest Service. He was especially fond of his boat patrol position on Bullard’s Bar Reservoir.

After eighteen years in Downieville, Larry built a new home in Grass Valley, doing most of the work himself. It was there that he passed away after a brief illness. Judy, his wife of 57 years, never left his side. He was 91 years old.

Larry leaves behind Judy, four sons, one daughter and six grandchildren. There wasn’t anything Larry wouldn’t do for his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Per his wishes, there will be no services.
