John W. Owen

1932 - 2022


On December 11, John W. Owen passed away, joining his wife and eldest daughter. John born on 4/12/1932 in Idaho Falls ID. John was the 8th of 10 brothers and sisters who affectionately called him Billy. He was the last of the siblings to go to his rest.

John worked on a large ranch while attending high school, waking up very early and working until school started then returning at the end of the day. John followed his older brothers in serving in the military by joining the Navy’s C Bees 1952-1954. Always good with his hands, John was adapt in layout, construction, and mechanics, he apprenticed at the Sacramento railroad after leaving the service. He worked on some of the old railroad engines that are on display at the Sacramento Railroad museum.

After marrying Lola Owen in 1955 and raising 5 daughters, the family relocated from the Sacramento area to the north shore of Lake Tahoe where they owned and operated an HVAC company, Sierra Sheetmetal and Lakeside Gallery in Kings Beach, CA. John, having learned the sheet metal trade by his father, John taught his son-in-law the trade which was handed down to the 4th generation.

Upon retirement, John and Lola moved to Loyalton CA in the Sierra Valley. John enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, helping Lola with her art, and community events in Loyalton. They loved their home and the community.

John was proceeded in death by his wife Lola June and his daughter Sharon Lynn. He is survived by his daughters Leslie, Shirley, Darice, Tamara, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
