Jerry Ray Hattox Sr., age 86 passed away peacefully Monday, May 22, 2023 at his home. Jerry was born March 23, 1937 in Comanche County, Texas and was a resident of Manvel for the last 5 ½ years. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1956 and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years with 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, retiring as Gunnery Sergeant. Jerry was a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, CA. Jerry owned and operated K and H Door Company from 1983-2004, and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Manvel. He was an avid Gold Miner, which began in 1964 when his first visit to the Yuba River (Downieville) while on 30 days leave and continuing every summer when he was not deployed. Gold Miners Barney Boziak, Steve Athanasian, Ted Heston, Gold Store owner, Cindy McCreary, Hardware Store, and many others in Downieville were among his long time friendships. Retirements from business ventures allowed Jerry and Lola, his wife, to begin life in Sierra City in the summer of 1999. Sierra Skies RV Park became our summer home until 2015 when Jerry was diagnosed with cancer. His Gold Mining on his claims was his passion and often times giving aid and advice to other miners. He was often volunteering in many Sierra City functions, coached by his wife, Lola! All so important for what he often called "God's Country" and for the best summer home!
