Levi Leipheimer races in the 2024 Downieville Classic.
DOWNIEVILLE — Registration for the annual Downieville Classic Bike Race and Festival, presented by Santa Cruz Bicycles, opened on Sunday night, January 26th. The race is globally recognized as a top mountain bike racing event and is scheduled to take place on August 9th and 10th.
The Classic is comprised of two racing days: a cross-country race on Saturday and a downhill on Sunday. Saturday’s 26.5-mile grind sees riders climb from Sierra City to Packer Saddle before descending on single-track trail to the finish line in Downieville. Sunday’s race is a sprint on a 15-mile route from Packer Saddle to Downieville.
The race has a history of selling out quickly, so the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (race organizers) urge participants to sign up quickly. This is the 27th running of the Classic, and all proceeds will go to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship for their work maintaining and developing the Downieville trail system.
