Daniel Wayne Nelson

Daniel W. Nelson of Grass Valley, California, passed away on February 18, 2025. Born August 14, 1934, in Tooele, Utah, he was the son of the late Daniel I. Nelson/Holloway and Rena Privett Baker.

Dan married Donna L. Meade in 1959, and they were married for 61 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 and the Navy Reserves from 1955 to 1960.Dan worked many jobs, including logging truck driver, mining at the Empire Mine, 30 years with CalTrans, and as owner and operator of Coyoteville Café & Cabins in Downieville, CA. After selling the café & cabins, they retired to Cambridge, Idaho, where Dan worked shuttling cars for river rafters. He was devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was always active with a love of family, the outdoors, hunting, walking, and helping others.

Dan is survived by daughters Brenda Black of Goodyears Bar and Jackie Davenport of Placerville, and son Earl Nelson of Palm Springs; two grandchildren, Jessi of Penn Valley and Ryan of Goodyears Bar; and two great-grandsons, Logan and Jacob. He is also survived by his brothers Earl Nelson and Dave Holloway and his sisters Thoris Olson and Mariellen Arthur.

Dan was truly loved by his family and friends and will be missed.
