DOWNIEVILLE — On Saturday, July 6th, the annual Firefighter’s Muster BBQ and Street Dance will bring a special treat to Downieville as it hosts a legendary band led by long-time Santana bassist David Margen. The event will feature the sounds of Santana, soul, funk, and even some rock.
The band, assembled by Margen, boasts a lineup of seasoned musicians, each with an impressive history in the music industry. Margen has played with icons such as Santana, Herbie Hancock, Jefferson Starship, and Joe Walsh from the Eagles. This year, he is bringing his brother, well-known Bay Area guitarist Peter Margen, along with several other notable musicians.
Keyboardist Tony Stead, who has performed with Sly and the Family Stone, drummer T. Moran, who worked with Jefferson Starship and Gregg Allman, and singer Fred Ross, who was part of James Brown’s horn section, are among the talented artists set to take the stage. John Marin, a singer and percussionist who has played with Jorge Santana, and local guitarist Paul Lesniak round out the ensemble.
Margen says he’s excited to bring all his pals to Downieville and promises a “funky good time” for all. He has been visiting Downieville since the 1960s and is a part-time resident of Goodyears Bar. The event, which benefits the Downieville Fire Department, will begin with a tri-tip dinner hosted by the fire department from 4 to 7 p.m., leading up to the band’s performance from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10 for the dance, and the BBQ is $25 for Adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for kids under 10, and free for kids under 6.
