775 Offroad & Recovery responds for a car stuck in snowy mud
CARSON CITY, NEVADA - Not every hero arrives in a cape; some come in trucks, trailers, and rigs equipped to meet the challenge of assisting stranded off-road enthusiasts and the average driver of a vehicle stuck in dicey and seemingly impossible-to-recover predicaments throughout the year. The 775 Offroad & Recovery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization answering the prayers of many in crisis on U.S. Forest Service land, Forest Service roads, Bureau of Land Management territories, and other off-road destinations. With over 100 trained volunteers, 775’s teams of skilled operators venture out to rescue folks and their vehicles where the standard tow truck companies cannot get the job done, a welcome fact for the much-grateful recipients of their services. While some volunteers are retired, most are still working full-time jobs.
Sierra Countians are fortunate this group crosses state lines from northern Nevada time and time again, especially in the winter months, to assist extreme off-road adventurers and the soul stuck in the snow or mud during their day. The Sierra County Sheriff’s Department and our county’s residents have greatly benefited from the numerous vehicle rescue calls 775 responds to in winter months, documented many times in the weekly Sheriff’s Blotter. With an unwavering commitment to serve their communities in Nevada and ours, the non-profit made the Blotter again in this week’s edition as their group assisted a vehicle stuck on a rock and another that ran out of gas.

While off-road recovery groups existed before the formation of 775 Offroad & Recovery in January 2020, the organization’s founders realized that, despite having the best intentions and showing up on the scene with a truck, winch, and chain, many social media groups specializing in off-road recovery lacked the advanced training and skills to render services properly. 775 sought to remedy a lack of knowledge and raised the bar on recovery standards with the group’s inception, introducing a unique and effective approach to off-road recovery. Their innovative methods, which have set them apart in the field, provide a sense of confidence and reassurance to those in need.
Donations to the non-profit are greatly appreciated, as recipients of their services are never charged. In 2023, the group assisted in over 300 recoveries and had a fuel bill of over $25,000. Donations fund the fuel required for all the volunteers to drive hours to a call and enable other ongoing work, including safety training, emergency vehicle repairs, assistance finding missing persons, off-road driver training, trail clean-ups, food drives, and much more.
