Leonard Creek Is Named by USGS

The the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, a division of the U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS), at its June 10, 2021
meeting, approved the proposal to apply the new name Leonard Creek to a previously unnamed 2.1 mile long stream in Sierra County.

Named after J. Paul Leonard (1901-1995), a president of San Francisco State University who developed the nearby San Francisco State Sierra Nevada Field Campus, the stream enters the North Yuba River 0.8 miles
north northeast of Deadman Lake.
